Biggest regional rugby crowd for two years

With 18,500 tickets snapped up ahead of the big Boxing Day clash at the Liberty Stadium against local rivals the Scarlets, supporters are advised that there are still a small number of tickets available for purchase.

The attendance is already confirmed as the biggest in Welsh regional rugby for two years, since Christmas 2010, and with the Ticket Office remaining open for business over the weekend and on Christmas Eve, there is still plenty of time for anyone still to do so, to buy theirs ahead of matchday.

With a big crowd and an atmosphere to match in store, Andrew Hore, Chief Operations Officer at the Ospreys, says that events over the last week have shown that it’s not all doom and gloom in regional rugby.

“There’s been a lot said in the media over the last few weeks about the state of Welsh rugby but there’s a lot to be positive about” said Hore.

“Last weekend we enjoyed probably our greatest ever European Cup win, beating Toulouse at the Liberty Stadium in front of a 10,000 crowd that were simply phenomenal, and now we are looking forward to a massive game on Boxing Day for which more than 18,000 people have already bought tickets.

“That says to me that there is a real appetite for regional rugby and that there is a lot to be positive about. We are going into a huge game with a real buzz about the place, a young and generally local team, record season memberships and a general feeling that the local community are buying into what we are trying to do as a region.

“It’s going to be a huge occasion on Boxing Day and we want the place full so anyone still to get their tickets should look to buy them ahead of matchday, when they may all be gone.”

The festive Supporters Village will be open for extended hours on Boxing Day, from 3.00pm ahead of the 5.30pm kick-off, and then for an extra hour post-match, until 8.30pm, providing the perfect meeting place for fans of both teams and of all ages pre and post-match with a BBQ and bottle bar, a kids corner and the Ospreys inflatables.
