Bishop disappointed after narrow defeat

By Ospreys Rugby | 31/12/2010

His late try almost helped the Ospreys grab an unlikely win at the Cardiff City Stadium on New Year's Eve, but centre Andrew Bishop said that the players were disappointed after their first half display left them with too big a deficit to overturn.

Speaking to the media after the game, the Wales cap said:

Were pretty disappointed with the result. Coming off the back of a good win against the Scarlets the boys were really up for it. We knew there were things that we had to put right, but we probably let ourselves down a bit in the first half. But, second half we showed a bit more and there are plenty of positives to take out of it. The spirit of the squad is good and we took it to them. We were possibly unlucky at the end not to come away with the win.

It wasnt complacency. Its a totally different game to the Scarlets one. Its probably helped the Blues a bit, not having a game this week because it was a short turnaround, but saying that we dont want to seem as though we are making any excuses. We were out there on the pitch and we just didnt play well enough for 80 minutes. The second half we showed what we can do, and I suppose thats the main thing.

The forwards started getting into the game more and we started running good lines, running hard, not letting them bully us. Instead of them being on the front foot as they had been in the first half, we put them on the back foot and were able to put pressure on them in the right areas. We managed to turn that into points, but it wasnt enough.

Obviously the boys are disappointed, but theres a positive feeling in the dressing room. Were looking forward to next Fridays game against Leinster now, and after the way we stuck at it and played in the second half there are some positives to take away. We will work hard, were always looking to improve, and to do that, we need to play as a team. Its important that we turn 40 minutes into 80 if were going to succeed.
