Final Kids Camp reaches out to older children

The final Kids Camp of the summer holiday took place last week, focusing on U12's and U13's.

The two-day course at Llandarcy Academy of Sport, supported by the region’s primary sponsors RWE npower renewables, followed on from a series of camps for U6-U11’s over the last month, and offered older children a chance to enjoy an enhanced series of coaching sessions with Ospreys Development coaches.

Ioan Cunningham, Ospreys Community Initiatives Officer, said that the higher age-grade camp had been a success:

The difference with this camp compared to the others is that because we were working with older children, we could offer a series of more focused sessions, concentrating on core skills - tackle technique, passing under pressure, catching under pressure and managing the contact area.

“Where the U6 - U11's camps are designed for participation, fun and games, with this we could go into greater detail and really work on improving their individual skills. It was great to see so many youngsters really working hard on improving their game, while enjoying being in the Ospreys environment with likeminded rugby mad youngsters. There is still an element of fun and games but the coaches can focus slightly more on the detail of the skills

“While we will continue running the camps for younger age-grades, we will also look to run more of these older courses in the future, as they provide a great opportunity for a player who enjoys rugby and loves the Ospreys to come along and leave a better player.”
