Under 16's Maintain Unbeaten Tag In A Tense

Despite the Scarlets having not won a Reebok fixture this season they certainly came close in this match and it was the Young Ospreys who were in need of the final whistle.

Playing Regional rugby is a great achievement for a young player and sometimes it takes time to come to terms with demands of the competition. Playing in front of a large crowd of family and friends, both Head Coaches from the senior set ups' and with Welsh Schools selection on offer, can result in some of players lacking the composure required at this level. For the second time in Reebok matches the Young Opsreys conceeded unnecessary penalties and failed to turn pressure into points on numerous ocassions. Head Coach Alex Evans will certainly address these problems with his coaching staff but he commented "it is much easier to develop on players mistakes when even though they haven't performed at their best, they still have enough quality and determination to win."Despite taking the lead in a game for the first time this season the Young Ospreys were in familiar territory as they went in at the interval behind by 7 points to 6. Full back Tom Pridey kicked two excellent penalties to a try by 2nd row Gareth O'Reilly which was converted by full back James Russell. In the second half wing Bryan Barlow scored an excellent individual try as he kicked ahead and then gathered the ball to force his way over in the corner; a superb touchline conversion by Pridey saw the Young Ospreys extend their lead by 13 points to 7. However, the Scarlets refused to lie down and they got their second try from open side flanker Marcus Dininno, as they continued with their tactics of driving rucks and mauls. Pridey extended the lead with another penalty but a 4 point lead led to a rather uncomfortable final 10 minutes for the Young Ospreys, however, a committed defence saw them hold on for a 16 points to 12 victory.
