Ospreys Season Ticket Sales Soar

By - | 12/06/2007

Ospreys bosses have said that the new family-friendly season-ticket packages for the 2007/08 season unveiled last month are proving a hit with supporters after witnessing a 25 per cent rise in sales during the first week of sale.

Ospreys bosses have said that the new family-friendly season-ticket packages for the 2007/08 season unveiled last month are proving a hit with supporters after witnessing a 25 per cent rise in sales during the first week of sale compared to last year"€™s figures.

Regional chiefs, who last month stated their aim of breaking the 10,000 average crowd next season, have revealed that over one thousand season tickets have already been snapped up since they went on sale at Liberty Stadium a week ago, compared to a first week total of just over 800 twelve months ago. Particularly encouraging for bosses in the region is that, of the season tickets purchased so far, 10 per cent have been first time purchases.

Ospreys Managing Director Roger Blyth said:

"€œThe response to our new season ticket packages in the first week of sales has been astounding. To have sold 25 per cent more than we did in the first week of sales last summer is a clear indication that we have got the pricing structure right, and that is supported by the fact that 10 per cent of sales-to-date have been to people who previously hadn"€™t purchased a season ticket.

"€œWe set our prices for next season after listening to the views of our supporters and we are delighted to see them responding so positively to the changes we have introduced. Our season tickets represent fantastic value for all fans, young and old, particularly if you take advantage of our early-bird prices and buy before July 31st.

"€œAs a region we have come an incredibly long way in a short space of time, with average crowds up from 3,720 in our first ever season to the current level, knocking on the 10,000 barrier. We still have room to continue growing though, with a 20,000 seater stadium to fill and we"€™ll continue to work with all interested parties to build our support base further for next season and beyond, helping to establish us as a leading force in European rugby."€

The Ospreys average crowd rose by six per cent during 2006/07, up from 9,223 during the first ever Liberty Stadium campaign to 9,820 last time around. With the 10,000 landmark agonisingly close, bosses at the region are hoping that the new season-ticket initiatives, combined with the innovative two-tiered match-day pricing system announced last week, will see the Ospreys become the first Welsh region to smash the five figure barrier.

Season-ticket holders will also receive free automatic registration to the new Ospreys Membership scheme that is to be launched this summer. Normally costing £25 per person, the scheme will entitle members to a 10 per cent loyalty discount on any transactions made at the Ospreys Superstore, 10 per cent off the cost of match tickets, entry into draws for international tickets and access to away travel packages, along with other benefits that will be announced at a later date.

All season tickets will be valid for all Heineken Cup and EDF Energy group or pool stage matches as well as Magners League matches. Application forms can be downloaded from the Ospreys website, http://www.ospreysrugby.com/ and postal applications are now being accepted. Season tickets can also be purchased in person at the Liberty Stadium Ticket Office.
