Tickets for the Ospreys eagerly awaited clash with the touring Australians have gone on sale at Liberty Stadium, with supporters snapping up tickets almost two months ahead of the game.
The Wallabies will kick-off their tour of the Celtic Nations against the Ospreys on Wednesday 1st Nov, just three days ahead of their clash with Wales at the Millennium Stadium. The match already appears to be heading for a sell-out with almost half the tickets for the game sold in the first week of sale.
The match will be the first occasion that a Welsh region will entertain a touring international side, and the first time that Australia have visited the Ospreys region since November 1992 when the then world champions were involved in two thrilling encounters, losing 21-6 to Swansea at St Helen’s before overcoming a fierce challenge from Neath at the Gnoll to win 16-8 the following week.
Ospreys Managing Director, Mike Cuddy, said:
“By attracting the Wallabies to Liberty Stadium we have pulled off a real coup and as the only club to be fortunate enough to face Australia on this tour we are the envy of the rugby community across the UK.
“The response to the match from our supporters has been fantastic with fans queuing to ensure their seat for what will be a historic match. With 8,000 tickets already sold we are anticipating a full house for what is sure to be a fantastic occasion for all Ospreys supporters.”
The game is not included in the Ospreys season ticket package and is an all pay event for all supporters. However, season-ticket holders have until 30th September to guarantee their regular seat for the game, after which date they will be released on general sale. Season ticket holders will also receive a 50% discount off the ticket price for their own seat. Any additional tickets purchased are subject to normal pricing.
Mike Cuddy added:
“One of the regrettable things about the modern rugby era has been the demise of the traditional tours when the likes of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa would take on the local clubs at packed grounds where it would seem as though the whole town or city had turned out.
“As the first region to be fortunate enough to host a touring country, everyone involved with the Ospreys is looking forward to enjoying such a day once again.”
